Catenaa, Monday, February 17, 2025 – Sony’s Soneium blockchain has unveiled its first music NFT collection, marking a major step in blockchain-driven music distribution.

The collection, created in partnership with onchain record label Coop Records, aims to reshape traditional music monetization models.

The debut release features an exclusive 22-minute track from Tokyo-based producer NUU$HI. Hosted on Sonova, Soneium’s dedicated NFT marketplace, the track is priced at 0.000777 ETH ($2.11), with 644 copies minted as of now.

Coop Records, a community-owned label, has already brought over 600 songs onchain, addressing longstanding issues in traditional profit-sharing models. The platform leverages blockchain to provide fairer revenue distribution among artists, streaming platforms, and record labels.

Coop Records founder Cooper Turley emphasized the growing role of blockchain applications in the music industry, stating that “crypto is finally entering the era where apps are the main focus. And with tokens at the center, creators and power users will be the biggest winners.” Soneium echoed this view, reiterating its commitment to supporting artists with equitable revenue models.

Soneium, powered by an Ethereum Layer 2 network, officially launched its mainnet on January 14. Sony Blockchain Solutions Labs, its Singapore-based subsidiary, has previously highlighted blockchain’s potential in intellectual property protection and transparent profit-sharing.

While Sony Music Group owns major labels like Columbia Records and RCA Records, no direct collaboration between them and Soneium has been announced.

Sony is also actively promoting Soneium’s adoption through “Soneium Conquest,” a four-week campaign hosted on the Galxe platform. The initiative introduces creators, developers, and blockchain enthusiasts to Web3, focusing on creativity, collaboration, and gaming applications within the Soneium ecosystem.
