Catenaa, Wednesday, February 12, 2025 – The Russian Energy Ministry has planned to initiate a registry of crypto mining, RBC said on February 5.
The decision that has been taken by the Russian government was to regulate the mining operations within the country, the report said.
The proposed registry would help to control the miners by keeping tabs on their records of mining rig purchases, Deputy Minister of Energy Yevgeny Grabchak said.
The core of the proposal would be focused on optimizing the mechanism to identify mining operations and impose bans on mining-prohibited regions.
The new approach would enhance the performance of mining-allowed regions, significantly contributing to the country’s economy.
The observers are of the opinion that the upsurge of mining resulted in power shortages in power-deficient areas.
Grabchak noted that the power consumption of the miners has increased by 14% in recent times.
Further, he referred to the matter that new miners are experiencing network losses as current crypto miners are misusing power outside of their areas.
RBC reported that ten regions in Russia have been subjected to a ban on mining operations effective from January 1, 2025, until March 15, 2031.
