Catenaa, Wednesday, February 12, 2025 – Helium Mobile has launched the nation’s first free 5G phone plan, offering 3GB of data, 300 texts, and 100 minutes of calls per month at no cost. Due to expected high demand, the company has opened a waitlist for its new “Zero Plan.”
The decentralized network is powered by thousands of user-operated nodes across the U.S., with individuals earning crypto tokens for contributing coverage. Following its migration to the Solana blockchain, Helium’s network rewards users with Cloud Points, which can be redeemed for gift cards through activities such as location sharing, referrals, and surveys.
“This is more than just a free phone plan; it’s a movement to make wireless service accessible, affordable, and rewarding for everyone,” said Coco Tang, General Manager of Helium Mobile Subscribers.
Helium Mobile, backed by Nova Labs, expanded nationwide after a trial launch in Miami. It operates on a bring-your-own-device model and partners with T-Mobile to provide additional coverage. Paid plans include the $15-per-month Air Plan with 10GB of data and the $30 Infinity Plan offering unlimited service.
While the Zero Plan provides free wireless access, users must supply their own smartphones, limiting accessibility to those who can afford a device outright. Helium Mobile’s decentralized model aims to challenge traditional telecom giants by offering a community-powered alternative.
