Meta Connect, in partnership with EssilorLuxottica, has announced its next-generation Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses collection. Starting at $299, this pair of smart glasses has new and improved features aimed at content creators. The Meta Ray-Ban smart glasses will be available for purchase starting October 17.
These new glasses, known as the Ray-Ban Meta collection, were unveiled at Meta’s most recent developer conference alongside the new Quest 3 mixed-reality headset. These new smart glasses have the ability to play music, take phone calls, take pictures, and record videos using the cameras attached to the corners of the frame. 1
This is the successor to the initial Ray-Ban smart glasses that were released two years ago. These smart glasses aim to eliminate the limitations of a handheld camera. Generally, when using handheld cameras, you tend to focus on the screen instead of focusing on the moment or just completely blocking your view.
These glasses allow you to enjoy the moment while still giving you the ability to record that moment. Its new ultra-wide 12MP camera records significantly improved videos and also gives you the ability to capture high-definition photos from your point of view. This camera is able to record 1080p videos for up to 60 seconds. Now you can record POV videos of concerts, hikes, and more.
This will take content creation to the next level and bring in a new way of vlogging with the ability to stream on Instagram or Facebook for up to 30 minutes. By just clicking a button on the glasses, users may switch between the phone and glasses cameras, allowing for real-time dual-camera streaming. You can also directly share your photos with your friends and family through your glasses by giving the voice command “Send a photo”.
The new custom-designed speakers have extended bass, a higher maximum volume, and improved directional audio. This will significantly reduce audio leakage for much-improved calls, music, and podcasts and will simultaneously improve audio pick-up even in noisy and windy environments.
The all-new Qualcomm Snapdragon AR1 Gen1 Platform powers the Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses, allowing for significantly quicker computation and better photo and video processing. Additionally, the glasses come with a sleek and redesigned charging case that is even smaller and slimmer and can contain up to eight extra charges, for a total of 36 hours of use. 2
Although these are smart glasses, Meta has not yet incorporated AR or AI into them. AI functions are the main focus of the updated chip that is included in these glasses. Meta promises AI onboard by next year that can read text and distinguish objects in front of the cameras.
