New York, Friday, October 4, 2024-YouTube, a subsidiary of Alphabet Inc.’s Google, mistakenly banned accounts and removed channels globally, leaving users without access.
On Thursday, the platform confirmed the issue and said it was working on reinstating the affected channels and restoring paid services like YouTube TV and YouTube Premium.
Users worldwide, including from the U.S., Europe, and Asia, were notified through emails of the bans and removals. Many reported losing access to their content, including playlists and saved media.
YouTube is providing an appeal process, and some users have regained access to their accounts. However, others are still reporting missing content, raising concerns over the platform’s error. This incident adds to user frustration following YouTube’s introduction of “Pause ads” and recent content restrictions due to legal disputes.
This YouTube glitch follows a series of controversies. In September, the platform faced backlash for introducing “Pause ads” and restricting access to popular songs due to a dispute with SESAC. This marks another technical misstep for Google, known for pioneering digital services but increasingly criticized for its handling of user data and platform changes.
