Catenaa, Tuesday, May 20, 2025- YouTube has removed Roxom TV, a rising Bitcoin-focused media platform, from its site without prior notice, stoking fears of renewed censorship against cryptocurrency content creators.
The channel, which launched in late 2024 and streamed round-the-clock Bitcoin education, reportedly had no prior violations before its sudden takedown on May 14. YouTube cited a breach of its “harmful and dangerous content” policy, though Roxom TV’s team contests the claim.
Alex McShane, director of Bitcoin strategy at Roxom TV, said the platform’s appeal was automatically denied without a human review. He believes algorithmic moderation may have misinterpreted coverage of scams and political Bitcoin content as policy violations.
“We need a human to review this. So far, only bots have reviewed our appeal,” he told Cryptonews.
This incident echoes YouTube’s December 2019 “crypto purge,” during which more than 35 channels, including Bankless and Altcoin Daily, were suspended. Although some were reinstated, concerns about automated moderation persist.
Experts say crypto and gambling content often trigger similar algorithmic responses. YouTube’s March 4 policy warned creators against promoting gambling or making financial guarantees, though McShane said Roxom TV received no such specific charge.
Content strategist Nikki Martinez warned that creators using terms like “guaranteed income” or linking off-platform sites are vulnerable to takedowns. She recommends using cautious language and maintaining a presence on decentralized or multiple platforms to avoid dependency on any one service.
Despite the setback, Roxom TV has migrated its operations to Rumble and remains hopeful for reinstatement on YouTube.
