Catenaa, Sunday, May 11, 2025-President Donald Trump declared his full support for cryptocurrencies on Sunday, framing digital assets as a critical frontier in the US battle to prevent Chinese dominance over emerging technologies.
“I’m very much in favor of crypto because otherwise China is going to take it over,” Trump said while returning to the White House from Palm Beach, Florida recently.
His remarks underscore a growing concern in Washington about China’s influence in the global digital economy.
Trump warned that the rapid rise of cryptocurrency could hand Beijing a strategic advantage if the United States doesn’t assert leadership.
“Crypto is a whole new thing that started, you know, not so long ago,” he added, emphasizing the urgency of maintaining US control.
The president’s latest comments build on his administration’s January launch of a Securities and Exchange Commission task force focused on easing crypto regulation. The move aimed to foster innovation by lowering barriers long criticized by industry leaders.
Trump also appointed David Sacks, former PayPal COO, as his AI and Crypto Czar. The appointment signaled a push to streamline regulatory frameworks and reinforce America’s technological edge.
Beijing’s push to globalize its state-backed digital yuan has raised red flags among US policymakers, who fear the currency could shift financial power away from Western systems.
Trump has repeatedly accused China of attempting to dominate critical tech sectors, including artificial intelligence, 5G, and blockchain.
His vocal support of crypto is now being seen as a geopolitical tool to counter China’s growing ambitions in the digital realm.
