Catenaa, Friday, December 06, 2024-Former PayPal COO and venture capitalist David Sacks has been appointed by Donald Trump as the White House’s Artificial Intelligence and cryptocurrency “Czar.”
The nomination, announced Thursday, reflects Trump’s ongoing pattern of rewarding major political donors with influential positions.
Sacks, a prominent Silicon Valley figure and host of the popular podcast All-In, has been a close ally of Trump.
In June, he hosted a fundraiser at his San Francisco mansion, raising over $12 million for the Trump campaign.
Sacks is also linked to Elon Musk, having supported his acquisition of Twitter, now known as X.
In his new role, Sacks will lead efforts to shape U.S. policy on artificial intelligence and cryptocurrency, two sectors Trump has identified as critical for America’s future competitiveness.
Additionally, Sacks will head the Council of Advisors for Science and Technology, a committee tasked with advising on national policies across areas like public health, energy, and national security.
Trump emphasized that Sacks will also focus on preserving free speech online, countering what he views as Big Tech bias, and developing a legal framework to provide clarity for the cryptocurrency industry.
Sacks joins other recent appointees in Trump’s administration, including David Perdue, named ambassador to China, and former US Border Patrol chief Rodney S. Scott, who will head US Customs and Border Protection.
