Ticketmaster Data Breach Exposes Millions of Customers

NEW YORK, Monday, June 3, 2024 – A hacking group known as ShinyHunters is claiming responsibility for a cyberattack on Ticketmaster, potentially compromising the data of millions of customers. The group alleges it accessed a trove of personal information, including names, addresses, phone numbers, and partial credit card details, for roughly 560 million users. 1

Ticketmaster, owned by Live Nation Entertainment, confirmed the breach by filing a Form 8-K with the SEC on Friday, May 31, 2024. The date on the filing, however, says May 20, according to the incident date.2

In its filing with the SEC, parent company, Live Nation Entertainment, said it had “identified unauthorized activity within a third-party cloud database environment.”

ShinyHunters reportedly advertised the stolen data for sale on a hacking forum for a one-time fee of $500,000.

The Australian government has confirmed an investigation is underway, and the FBI has offered assistance.

While the full scope of the breach remains unclear, security experts advise Ticketmaster users to be vigilant against phishing scams and monitor their financial statements for any suspicious activity.
