Catenaa, Friday, January 2025 – Banking giant Standard Chartered has received a license to offer cryptocurrency custody services in the European Union, establishing a new entity in Luxembourg as its regulatory gateway under the Markets in Crypto Assets (MiCA) regulation.

MiCA, which came into full effect on Dec. 30, provides a uniform regulatory framework for crypto operations across the EU. The new Luxembourg-based unit will enable Standard Chartered to offer secure custody solutions for digital assets to its European clients.

Laurent Marochini, previously the Head of Innovation at Société Générale, has been appointed CEO of the Luxembourg operations.

The license follows the September launch of Standard Chartered’s crypto custody services in the UAE, further solidifying its global expansion in the digital asset sector.
