During November 2021 and June 2022, the Kim had lured 158 people into a crypto mining investment scheme promising 18% pay back in a month and had swindled 4.5 billion South Korean won.

It is reported that 100 million won of the alleged scammer had been confiscated while an order of freezing 1.3 billion ($972 000) won had been passed by South Korean Police.

Reports say that Mr. Kim had evaded an interrogation scheduled for September 2023.
