SEC to Review 70+ Crypto ETFs in 2025 Report

In Summary

  • SEC to review 70+ crypto ETFs in 2025, Bloomberg reports
  • Proposed ETFs range from Bitcoin to memecoins and derivatives
  • Institutional interest rises but altcoin demand remains unclear
  • ARK adds staked Solana to U.S. ETF lineup

Catenaa, Thursday, April 24, 2025-The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is set to review more than 70 cryptocurrency exchange-traded fund proposals in 2025, ranging from mainstream digital assets to memecoins and crypto derivatives, according to Bloomberg.

Bloomberg analyst Eric Balchunas said the pending ETF roster includes altcoins such as Solana, XRP and Litecoin, as well as novelty tokens like Dogecoin and even “2x Melania.” Balchunas characterized the upcoming review cycle as “a wild year” for crypto ETFs in a post on X on April 21.

The surge in ETF filings comes amid rising institutional interest in digital assets. A joint report by Coinbase and EY-Parthenon found that over 80% of institutional investors plan to increase their crypto exposure this year.

Still, analysts caution that ETF approval is no guarantee of investor demand—especially for funds centered on niche altcoins. Balchunas likened ETF listing to being added to streaming platforms: “It doesn’t guarantee listens, but it puts your music where the vast majority of listeners are.”

Grayscale’s pre-ETF fund data suggests altcoin-based ETFs could see modest inflows between several hundred million and $1 billion—significantly less than the $100 billion netted by spot Bitcoin ETFs in 2024.

ETFs offering structured exposure through crypto derivatives could attract stronger institutional interest, analysts say. Jeff Park of Bitwise Invest said these options-based funds may catalyze “explosive” upside in assets like Bitcoin.

On April 21, ARK Invest added staked Solana to two existing ETFs, marking a milestone for Solana’s U.S. availability in ETF form.
