Catenaa, Sunday, June 22, 2025- Authorities in Russia Krasnoyarsk Krai have dismantled a massive 30,000-square-meter illegal cryptocurrency mining farm operating in an industrial zone on state-owned land, prosecutors confirmed Tuesday.
The facility, located in the town of Nazarovo, reportedly generated digital assets worth approximately 4.6 million rubles ($58,672) monthly for its operators. Officials say the mining operation, hidden in plain sight behind barbed-wire fencing, was discovered during a raid authorized by a district court order.
Investigators uncovered an extensive array of mining equipment, including multiple power transformers, generators, and cooling systems connected unlawfully to the city’s electricity grid.
The facility was officially registered as a “non-residential building” under a management company that leased the site to a crypto mine, despite the building itself being nonexistent, prosecutors said.
The illegal operation came to light following a tip-off from a regional energy provider, which had flagged potential emergency-level electricity usage at the site. Further inspections revealed the operators had no legal permits to draw power or occupy public land. Prosecutors also cited serious fire safety violations, warning of substantial public risk.
Authorities said they had previously issued formal warnings to the mining firm, which were ignored. Legal proceedings have now halted all activity at the facility pending resolution of the violations.
The bust underscores growing scrutiny of crypto operations in Russia’s mining hotspots. Krasnoyarsk Krai ranks among the top three mining regions nationally, alongside Irkutsk and Tatarstan, according to the Federal Tax Service registry.
