In Summary

  • Ripple teams up with Chipper Cash for Africa-focused blockchain payments
  • The partnership aims to cut high remittance costs and boost financial access
  • Ripple Payments will facilitate faster, 24/7 cross-border transfers
  • Comes as Ripple settles a $50M lawsuit with the SEC

Catenaa, Saturday, March 29, 2025-Ripple has partnered with Chipper Cash, an African fintech firm, to enhance cross-border payments into Africa using blockchain technology. The collaboration aims to reduce transaction costs and improve financial accessibility.

Chipper Cash, which operates in nine African nations, will integrate Ripple Payments to facilitate faster, round-the-clock global remittances. Ripple’s move comes as Africa grapples with high remittance fees, often exceeding 7% per transaction, according to the World Bank.

Reece Merrick, Ripple’s Managing Director for the Middle East and Africa, called the deal a “key milestone” in the company’s regional expansion. Chipper Cash CEO Ham Serunjogi highlighted the role of blockchain in boosting financial inclusion and market access.

The partnership follows Ripple’s previous collaboration with Onafriq in 2023. Ripple Payments currently covers 90 markets and processes over $70 billion in transactions annually.

This announcement comes amid Ripple’s recent $50 million settlement with the SEC, which significantly lowered its financial penalty from an initial $125 million.

The deal is expected to challenge traditional remittance firms while pushing regulators to modernize policies governing digital finance in Africa.
