Ripple Integrates Wormhole to Enhance XRPL Interoperability

In Summary

  • Ripple integrates XRPL and XRPL EVM sidechain with Wormhole protocol
  • Enables cross-chain messaging, asset transfers and token issuances
  • Integration supports more than 35 blockchains for institutional finance
  • Developers can access new smart contract interactions at launch

Catenaa, Wednesday, July 02, 2025- Ripple expanded the XRP Ledger’s multichain capabilities on Thursday by integrating with Wormhole, a leading cross-chain interoperability protocol, to enable seamless messaging, asset transfers and token issuances across more than 35 blockchains.

The integration covers both the XRPL mainnet and the XRPL EVM sidechain, embedding native XRPL tokens within Wormhole’s ecosystem of institutional partners, including BlackRock, Securitize and Apollo.

Ripple said the move aligns with its strategy to position the XRP Ledger as a core component of on-chain finance for banks, asset managers and other large institutions.

The announcement follows a series of developments this month for Ripple.

In early June, the XRPL mainnet adopted Circle’s USDC stablecoin, and DeFi platform Ondo Finance added XRPL support for its on-chain US government debt product.

Ripple also plans to launch its own EVM sidechain later this quarter.

Wormhole co-founder Robinson Burkey said the integration unlocks new cross-chain smart contract interactions and asset movements for one of the oldest enterprise blockchain networks. “By adding Wormhole to the XRP Ledger, we are helping to extend its reach across all major chains,” he said.

The integration is expected to accelerate institutional use cases, offering faster settlement, lower fees and broad access to DeFi tools without sacrificing regulatory compliance. Ripple and Wormhole said developers can begin building with the new bridges immediately.
