New York, Wednesday, October 23, 2024- Bitcoin core developer Peter Todd has gone into hiding following harassment after being wrongly identified as Satoshi Nakamoto in an October 8 HBO documentary.
Todd, who has denied being the elusive Bitcoin creator, claims he has been inundated with requests for money, including one individual sending 25 emails in just two days.
In an interview with Wired, Todd emphasized that the documentary’s claim was made for marketing purposes, and he believes the ongoing search for Satoshi Nakamoto is futile.
While Todd has contributed significantly to Bitcoin’s development, especially in improving security and scalability, he contends that the role of Bitcoin’s founder is fundamentally different.
