Catenaa, Monday, December 02, 2024 – OpenAI is reportedly considering the development of a web browser that integrates with its AI chatbot, ChatGPT, a move that could position the company against Google in both the browser and search markets.
According to a report from The Information, OpenAI has held discussions with developers such as Conde Nast, Redfin, Eventbrite, and Priceline about potential search product partnerships.
OpenAI’s interest in expanding into search follows its recent launch of SearchGPT, further intensifying competition with Google, which dominates both the browser and search industries.
This comes as Alphabet, Google’s parent company, has sought to strengthen its own AI presence with the launch of its generative AI chatbot, Gemini, in response to the growing influence of OpenAI’s ChatGPT.
The browser initiative could add to the growing tensions between the tech giants, especially as Google’s position in the browser market faces legal scrutiny. The U.S. Department of Justice has argued that Google’s dominance in the browser market, particularly through Chrome, constitutes a monopoly and should be broken up.
OpenAI has also explored a partnership with Samsung to incorporate AI-powered features into its devices, posing a challenge to Google, which has long collaborated with Samsung.
OpenAI’s existing partnership with Apple, where its technology powers Apple Intelligence features, further illustrates its growing influence in the tech sector.
