Catenaa, Wednesday, April 16, 2025- OpenAI is reportedly developing a generative AI-powered social media platform that could directly compete with Elon Musk X, escalating an already heated rivalry between the two tech moguls.
According to The Verge, OpenAI’s internal prototype centers on a social feed integrated with ChatGPT’s image generation tools.
CEO Sam Altman has allegedly begun gathering feedback on the concept, though it remains in early development.
The potential social network would put OpenAI in direct competition not just with X, but with Meta, which is also reportedly planning a similar AI-driven social product.
Altman, who previously joked on X about building a social app, now appears ready to follow through.
The move comes as OpenAI and Musk remain locked in a legal and public relations battle. Last week, OpenAI countersued Musk, accusing him of a hostile $97 billion takeover attempt and alleging he used “bad-faith tactics” to regain control of the company he co-founded.
The clash follows Musk’s own lawsuit against OpenAI in March, claiming it strayed from its nonprofit mission.
A judge rejected Musk’s bid to halt OpenAI’s transition to a capped-profit model but fast-tracked the trial for this fall.
