  • Expands fiat-to-crypto services across Europe.
  • CEO hails MiCA as transformative for the industry.
  • Negotiating $150M acquisition of Helio Pay for merchant growth.

Crypto payments platform MoonPay has gained approval under the European Union’s Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) regulation, marking a significant milestone for its operations across Europe. The license was granted by the Dutch Authority for the Financial Markets, as announced in a press release and a celebratory social media post from MoonPay.

MiCA, which establishes a unified legal framework for digital assets across the European Economic Area (EEA), aims to enhance consumer protection, market transparency, and stability. With this certification, MoonPay solidifies its compliance with stringent standards, enabling it to expand its fiat-to-crypto and crypto-to-fiat payment services across Europe.

“This approval underscores MoonPay’s commitment to regulatory excellence and our mission to build a trusted bridge between traditional finance and the crypto economy,” said Ivan Soto-Wright, MoonPay’s CEO and co-founder. He emphasized that MiCA is a transformative moment for the European crypto industry, enabling deeper collaboration with regulators and stakeholders.

MoonPay operates in over 180 countries and supports more than 100 digital assets. The MiCA license reinforces its position as a leader in the digital payments industry. The company is also reportedly negotiating a $150 million acquisition of Helio Pay, a cryptocurrency e-commerce platform. If finalized, this would be MoonPay’s largest acquisition, further strengthening its merchant services and enhancing its “PayPal for crypto” reputation.

As MiCA takes full effect, MoonPay’s approval underscores the evolving regulatory landscape and its role in shaping the future of the European digital asset ecosystem.
