Catenaa, Saturday, March 22, 2025 – Crypto payments firm Moonpay has secured a Money Transmitter License (MTL) from the Wisconsin Department of Financial Institutions, expanding its regulatory presence to 46 US states. The approval allows Wisconsin residents to fund their Moonpay Balance accounts without additional fees.

The milestone underscores Moonpay’s commitment to compliance in an industry facing regulatory uncertainty.

“Earning our Wisconsin MTL strengthens our position in the market as a fully regulated platform,” said Ivan Soto-Wright, Moonpay’s co-founder and CEO.

Wisconsin’s approval comes amid growing state-level adoption of digital assets. Last year, Wisconsin became the first US state to purchase bitcoin, reflecting increased institutional interest in cryptocurrency investments.

Moonpay has been aggressively expanding its footprint, highlighted by its $175 million acquisition of Solana-based payments processor Helio and securing Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) approval in the Netherlands.

The company aims to establish a fully regulated global crypto payment network.

The new license enhances Moonpay’s ability to offer seamless digital asset transactions while reinforcing trust among users and regulators.
