Catenaa, Tuesday, August 12, 2025-Japanese bitcoin treasury firm Metaplanet purchased an additional 518 bitcoins for about $61.4 million, raising its total holdings to 18,113 BTC, the company announced Tuesday.

The Tokyo-listed firm acquired the latest batch at an average price of roughly $118,519 per bitcoin, increasing its accumulated bitcoin investment to $1.85 billion with an average cost of $101,911 per coin, according to CEO Simon Gerovich.

Metaplanet currently ranks sixth worldwide by bitcoin holdings, behind major players such as Strategy, MARA, XXI, Bitcoin Standard Treasury Company, and Riot, according to data from Bitcointreasuries.

Earlier this month, Metaplanet revealed plans to raise up to 555 billion yen ($3.7 billion) through issuing new perpetual preferred shares to fuel its ongoing bitcoin acquisition strategy.

In a related move, Strategy, led by Michael Saylor, announced Monday it bought 155 BTC for approximately $18 million, pushing its total bitcoin holdings to 628,946 BTC.

Bitcoin’s price declined 2.4% over the past 24 hours to $118,883 at the time of writing but gained 4% over the past week.

Metaplanet’s stock slipped 1.6% Tuesday midday in Tokyo amid broader market fluctuations. The shares have fallen 37% over the last month but remain up 183% year-to-date.
