Catenaa, Tuesday, September 02, 2025- Japan’s leading bitcoin treasury firm Metaplanet announced Monday the purchase of 1,009 BTC for approximately 16.48 billion yen ($112 million), bringing its total holdings to 20,000 BTC.

The acquisition positions the company as the sixth-largest public corporate holder of bitcoin globally, according to Bitcointreasuries.net.

Metaplanet acquired the latest batch at an average price of $111,068 per bitcoin. The milestone comes less than three months after the company’s previous disclosure of holding 10,000 BTC.

Earlier this year, Metaplanet raised its year-end target from 10,000 BTC to 30,000 BTC, signaling an aggressive accumulation strategy.

The firm plans to raise an additional 130 billion yen ($880 million) via an international share offering, with most of the proceeds earmarked for bitcoin purchases over the next two months.

CEO Simon Gerovich indicated that the company may leverage its bitcoin holdings to acquire cash-generating businesses in the future, combining treasury management with corporate growth initiatives.

Metaplanet’s stock fell 2.62% on Monday morning in Japan, while its U.S.-listed shares closed last Friday up 0.83% at $6.11.

Bitcoin prices declined 1.53% in the past 24 hours, trading at $107,605. The company’s strategic accumulation continues to highlight Japan’s growing role in institutional cryptocurrency adoption and corporate treasury management.
