Catenaa, Monday, September 08, 2025- Japanese bitcoin treasury firm Metaplanet said Monday it has added another 136 BTC worth about $15.2 million, lifting its total holdings to 20,136 BTC.
The purchase was made at an average price of $111,666 per coin, according to CEO Simon Gerovich.
The company now controls about $2.08 billion in bitcoin at an average cost of $103,196 per BTC.
Data from BitcoinTreasuries shows Metaplanet is the world’s sixth-largest publicly traded corporate bitcoin holder, trailing only Strategy, Mara, XXI, Bitcoin Standard Treasury Company, and Bullish. Strategy, led by Michael Saylor, remains the dominant holder with 636,505 BTC.
Bitcoin itself traded at $111,146 late Sunday, up 0.5 percent in 24 hours, reflecting steady investor interest despite the token’s high valuations.
Metaplanet has leaned heavily into bitcoin in 2025, pursuing a treasury strategy modeled on major U.S. players. The latest purchase signals its intent to remain a top corporate player in the cryptocurrency market even amid volatile stock performance.
