Catenaa, Sunday, March 09, 2025- Japanese investment firm Metaplanet has acquired an additional 156 Bitcoin (BTC) for approximately $13.4 million, bringing its total holdings to 2,391 BTC.
The firm, which has made aggressive moves to bolster its Bitcoin portfolio, purchased the BTC at an average price of $85,890 per coin.
CEO Simon Gerovich announced the latest acquisition on X, emphasizing the firm’s robust growth. Metaplanet reported a 31.8% Bitcoin yield for Q1 2025, following a staggering 310% yield in Q4 2024. This purchase comes on the heels of earlier acquisitions in February, including 135 BTC, 68 BTC, and 269 BTC.
Metaplanet’s long-term vision, outlined in its “Bitcoin Plan,” aims for 10,000 BTC by the end of 2025 and 21,000 BTC by the end of 2026. To support this ambitious plan, the company issued zero-interest bonds, raising $13.6 million, which will be directed into its Bitcoin acquisition fund, Evo Fund.
In addition to its growing Bitcoin holdings, Metaplanet is exploring international expansion. Gerovich recently met with officials at the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), as the firm evaluates potential listings outside Japan to increase global investor access.
Metaplanet’s shares, which have been trading on OTC Markets since November 2024, have seen impressive growth, surging over 1,800% in the past year.
