Catenaa, Friday, May 09, 2025-Avraham Eisenberg, the individual behind the $110 million exploit of the Mango Markets decentralized finance platform, has been sentenced to just over four years for possessing child sexual abuse material.
Eisenberg, who was convicted of executing a manipulative scheme on Mango Markets, was arrested in 2024 after a search of his devices revealed over 1,270 images and videos of explicit material.
Eisenberg’s exploit of Mango Markets occurred in October 2022, when he artificially pumped the price of MANGO, the platform’s native token, and manipulated the system to accrue a massive debt position. He then withdrew millions of dollars in funds.
Afterward, Eisenberg returned $67 million to Mango Markets, with the protocol’s community allowing him to keep $47 million following a governance vote.
The 29-year-old was originally charged with commodities fraud, manipulation, and wire fraud. Despite claiming that his actions were part of a legal trading strategy, Eisenberg was convicted and sentenced to prison for his involvement in the exploit and the possession of child abuse material.
The prosecution had sought an eight-year sentence, citing the severity of his crimes.
Eisenberg’s sentencing highlights the growing concerns over the illicit activities within the crypto space and underscores the complex legal challenges faced by those involved in such crimes.
