New York, Tuesday, August 6, 2024 – Manchester United on Wednesday, July 31, launched “Fantasy United,” a Web3 fantasy football game built on the Tezos blockchain. The game allows fans to collect digital player trading cards and compete in fantasy leagues.
The game will launch alongside the Premier League season on August 16.
This new venture integrates digital collectibles with an interactive fantasy football experience, allowing fans to collect “Player Trading Cards” and form fantasy squads.
For the 2024/25 season, these Player Trading Cards feature all first-team players, including new signings Joshua Zirkzee and Leny Yoro. Available in Classic, Rare, and Ultra-Rare editions, the cards are hand-drawn and updated with real-time stats.
Fans can use them to create five-man squads for the Fantasy United game, where they compete in mini-leagues and earn points based on the real-life performances of Manchester United players.
The initiative follows Manchester United’s successful digital ventures aimed at deepening fan interaction and modernizing football fandom.
Fans can compete directly against former United players in the Legends leagues, adding an extra layer of excitement. Early access to these trading cards was given to Devil-holders, owners of the club’s original digital collection, while the game is set to kick off with Manchester United’s Premier League opener against Fulham on August 16.
Manchester United’s collaboration with the Tezos Blockchain has significantly enhanced fan engagement, with nearly 100,000 members in their Discord community.
This move is part of a broader trend among football clubs embracing blockchain technology to connect with fans, as seen with Manchester City’s recent partnership with Quidd for NFT trading cards.
