Catenaa, Sunday, March 16, 2025 – In a landmark initiative, the Dantewada District Administration in Chhattisgarh, India, has successfully digitized over 700,000 land records dating back to the 1950s, utilizing blockchain technology. This move, led by Zupple Labs in collaboration with blockchain startup LegitDoc, aims to provide secure, tamper-proof, and easily accessible land records.
The announcement of the completion was made on March 6 by the Office of Land Records in Dantewada. IAS officer Mayank Chaturvedi, the district’s collector, emphasized that the digitization and blockchain integration now allow for instantaneous access to land records, reducing delays and preventing tampering. Previously, citizens often had to wait weeks for document verification.
To ensure broad access, kiosks have been set up across all sub-districts, enabling both citizens and government officials to retrieve the records. The blockchain application is a permissioned system, allowing revenue officers to efficiently verify and download land documents.
Documents including B-1 forms, ownership records, and cadastral maps are now available for verification via the Avalanche blockchain, with the use of smart contracts ensuring immutability. This project was led by Jayant Nahata, IAS, who emphasized the groundbreaking nature of the initiative in reducing land disputes, particularly for tribal communities and farmers.
India’s blockchain adoption is gaining momentum, with the country leading the global crypto adoption index. The digitization of land records further highlights India’s commitment to digital innovation.
