LONDON, Wednesday, July 17, 2024- HSBC Holdings Plc announced a while ago that Georges Elhedery had been appointed as its new CEO, effective September 2, 2024.

HSBC’s announcement can be read here.

Elhedery, currently the bank’s Chief Financial Officer, will succeed Noel Quinn, who led the bank for five years and will remain in an advisory capacity until the transition.

Elhedery’s appointment, emphasizing continuity, follows his extensive tenure at HSBC, where he has held various senior roles, including leading the Middle East and North Africa region and co-heading the Global Banking and Markets division.

The appointment aligns with HSBC’s strategic focus on growth and stability.

Quinn’s leadership saw HSBC through significant transformations, including asset sales and navigating the challenges of the global pandemic.

Elhedery, who joined HSBC in 2005, is expected to continue steering the bank towards leveraging its historical ties in Asia for growth, despite potential geopolitical tensions and economic challenges in the region.
