Ghana Post Unveils Tech-Enabled Stamps for Royal Anniversary

Accra, Ghana, Tuesday, May 28, 2024 – Ghana Post has unveiled a novel series of commemorative stamps, dubbed “Crypto Stamps,” to mark the 25th anniversary of King Otumfuo Osei Tutu II’s reign. 1

Launched in May 2024, these stamps represent a unique fusion of traditional cultural imagery and modern technological advancements.

Limited to a production run of 7,200, each stamp incorporates a tiny near-field communication (NFC) chip.

This embedded chip allows users to scan the stamp with a smartphone, linking it to a digital certificate stored on a blockchain network. This secure, digital verification system safeguards against counterfeiting and ensures the authenticity of each stamp.

Priced at approximately $18 (250 Ghanaian cedi) each, the Crypto Stamps offer collectors more than just physical aesthetics.

These limited-edition Stamps are connected to unique NFTs, verifiable on the blockchain, offering collectors proof of ownership and authenticity.

Owning the corresponding digital certificate potentially grants access to exclusive online content and other future benefits within the Ghanaian digital landscape.

This venture by Ghana Post positions the organization as a leader in technological innovation within Africa.
