FTX Caroline Ellison’s Sentencing Set for September 24

In Summary

  • Caroline Ellison’s sentencing hearing is scheduled for Sept. 24, 2024
  • Ellison testified against Sam Bankman-Fried, leading to his conviction
  • The court approved redacting personal details from her sentencing memo

New York, Wednesday, September 11, 2024- Caroline Ellison, former CEO of Alameda Research, will face her sentencing on Sept. 24, 2024, at 3 p.m. EDT, reports said.

She testified against her boss, Sam Bankman-Fried, in his 2023 trial, accusing him of directing her to commit fraud and hide the financial situation of FTX and Alameda from lenders.

Bankman-Fried was convicted on all charges and sentenced to 25 years in prison.

Ellison is the third key figure linked to FTX’s collapse, following FTX Digital Markets CEO Ryan Salame’s 7.5-year sentence earlier this year.

Ellison’s defense team has requested certain redactions in her sentencing documents, including personal information and details of character witnesses. Her lawyers argued that Ellison has been subject to intense media scrutiny and should be allowed to protect her privacy and that of her friends.

The judge granted the redaction request but allowed third parties to seek access to the names of those writing in Ellison’s support.

Two other FTX executives, Nishad Singh and Gary Wang, will be sentenced on Oct. 30 and Nov. 20, respectively.

The Department of Justice has not yet filed a recommendation for Ellison’s sentence.
