Ethereum's Buterin Launches 'The Splurge' Upgrade

In Summary

  • Vitalik Buterin announces “The Splurge,” an upgrade for Ethereum
  • Key features include EVM enhancements and direct account abstraction
  • Cryptographic advances like VDFs aim to improve network security
  • ETH price remains steady as Ethereum prepares for protocol innovations

New York, Thursday, October 31, 2024-  Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has introduced The Splurge, a series of comprehensive upgrades for the Ethereum blockchain.

In his latest blog post, Buterin explains that The Splurge will address various technical challenges, focusing on making Ethereum more performant, scalable, and secure.

Unlike previous upgrades, this suite aims to solve “smaller, complex issues” in the Ethereum protocol that demand dedicated enhancements.

Key upgrades include the refinement of the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM), intended to increase efficiency by implementing the EVM Object Format (EOF).

EOF, set for the next Ethereum hard fork, introduces key features like the separation of code and data and the removal of dynamic jumps in EVM code, laying the foundation for future EVM improvements.

Buterin also plans to implement account abstraction directly into the protocol, allowing smart contracts to manage transaction verification.
