ETH Co-founder Supports the Tornado Cash Developers

Catenaa, Friday, January 10, 2024 – Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has donated ETH 50 to Tornado Cash developers, reports on January 1 said.

The fund, which is worth approximately $170,000, would be utilized to tackle the Tornado Cash developers’ legal issues.

Buterin has involved in similar legal defense scenarios, contributing ETH to the convicted founders on various platforms.

It is reported that the donation is about 25% of $650,000 available on the JusticeDAO, the legal support in the blockchain network.

Co-founder of Tornado Cash developers, Alexey Pertsev was found guilty of money laundering in May 2024 and is appealing the verdict.

Storm and Roman Semenov, the fellow developers at the crypto mixer, are charged with money laundering, sanctions violations, and crypto fraud in the US.

Currently, Storm was released on bail, waiting for trial on April 14 this year.

Nevertheless, the protocol has been convicted for fraudulent crypto schemes and money laundering from the US Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), imposing sanctions in 2022.
