Catenaa, Friday, August 01, 2025-The US Department of Justice will not pursue criminal charges against crypto investment firm Dragonfly in connection with the ongoing federal trial of Tornado Cash co-founder Roman Storm, the company’s managing partner Haseeb Qureshi said this week.

The statement comes amid mounting scrutiny over the firm’s alleged links to the crypto mixer, which is at the heart of Storm’s money laundering and sanctions violation trial in Manhattan. Qureshi said the DOJ officially clarified in court on Monday that neither Dragonfly nor any of its executives are targets of the investigation.

The announcement follows days of speculation after media reports suggested Dragonfly could face charges. Qureshi called those reports misleading and criticized the DOJ’s earlier court remarks as a breach of policy, pointing to official testimony from federal prosecutor Nathan Rehn.

Qureshi expressed gratitude for the support received from the crypto and venture capital communities and urged the public to refocus on the implications of the Tornado Cash case.

He warned that the verdict in Storm’s trial could reshape the legal landscape for open-source software and privacy rights in the US Storm faces accusations of facilitating more than $1 billion in transactions through Tornado Cash, including funds linked to North Korea’s Lazarus Group. He could face up to 45 years in prison if convicted.

Closing arguments in Storm’s trial are expected later this week as the crypto world watches closely.
