Deutsche Börse Seals Blockchain Fund Deal, Eyes Streamlined Distribution Now

FRANKFURT, Germany, Thursday, January 18, 2024 – Deutsche Börse, the German stock exchange operator, said on January 10 that it had finalized its acquisition of FundsDLT, a Luxembourg-based blockchain platform for end-to-end fund issuance and distribution, the Deutsche Börse Group said in a media communiqué. 1

The deal, finalized after regulatory approval, marks Deutsche Börse’s strategic move into blockchain technology and its potential to streamline the asset management industry.

The terms of the acquisition were not disclosed, but the move adds FundsDLT’s expertise in tokenized funds and digital asset services to Deutsche Börse’s existing post-trade infrastructure.

FundsDLT will operate within the Clearstream Fund Services business segment but retain its separate legal identity and license under Luxembourg regulations.

FundsDLT, founded in 2020, was originally backed by Deutsche Börse, alongside Credit Suisse Asset Management, UBS Asset Management, and Natixis Investment Managers.

Nevertheless, the acquisition signals Deutsche Börse’s confidence in the future of blockchain technology and its role in transforming the asset management landscape.

By leveraging FundsDLT’s expertise, Deutsche Börse aims to position itself as a leader in the development of secure and efficient digital asset solutions for the post-trade market.
