Catenaa, Wednesday, November, 2024-Brian Armstrong, CEO of Coinbase, is scheduled to meet with President-elect Donald Trump on Monday, November 25, to discuss potential appointments for key government positions, according to a report by The Wall Street Journal.1
The discussions come as Trump considers nominations for Treasury Secretary and Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) chair, roles critical to the future of cryptocurrency regulation in the US.
The incumbent Chair Gary Gensler has already hinted at his resignation in a public address earlier this week. (See separate news)
Howard Lutnick, CEO of Cantor Fitzgerald and a vocal supporter of Bitcoin, is reportedly a contender for Treasury Secretary.
Lutnick’s firm has custody ties to Tether (USDT) and its reserves, which include US Treasurys, Bitcoin, and gold.
Trump has already selected prominent figures with favorable crypto views, including Robert F. Kennedy for Secretary of Health and Human Services, Elon Musk for the Department of Government Efficiency, and Vivek Ramaswamy, co-founder of Strive Enterprises.
The meeting is seen by industry leaders as the growing influence of the crypto industry on federal policy.
Coinbase has reportedly facilitated discussions between Lutnick and Armstrong as part of the broader transition process.
Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse and executives at Circle are also reported to have engaged with Trump’s team regarding personnel appointments.
