Catenaa, Saturday, February 08, 2025 – Coinbase has acquired Spindl, an onchain advertising and attribution platform founded by tech entrepreneur and commentator Antonio Garcia-Martinez. The terms of the deal were not disclosed. Founded in 2022, Spindl focuses on Web3 adtech solutions, helping blockchain-based applications track and attribute user activity. Following the acquisition, Spindl will operate under Base, the Ethereum Layer 2 network incubated by Coinbase.
“As we integrate this team & technology into Base, as with all things on Base, we’re committed to maintaining open standards for publishers and advertisers alike,” Coinbase said in a blog post.
“These principles will help us scale the ecosystem while keeping it open, fair and inclusive for everyone.”
Garcia-Martinez, a former Facebook ads executive, gained recognition after publishing Chaos Monkeys, a book offering a behind-the-scenes look at Silicon Valley’s tech industry. His experience in digital advertising has positioned Spindl as a key player in Web3 marketing solutions.
The acquisition comes as Coinbase continues expanding its ecosystem beyond cryptocurrency trading. By integrating Spindl’s technology into Base, the company aims to strengthen its position in decentralized finance (DeFi) and blockchain-based digital services.
Coinbase has been actively developing Base as a scalable Layer 2 solution, supporting developers in building decentralized applications. The addition of Spindl’s ad attribution expertise is expected to enhance its offerings for Web3 businesses looking for user acquisition and engagement insights.
