In Summary

  • Bybit is no longer blacklisted by France’s AMF, a major step toward EU compliance
  • The exchange faced regulatory hurdles in France, Malaysia, and India but kept pushing forward
  • MiCA regulations, fully rolling out in 2024-2025, will standardize crypto rules across the EU

Catenaa, Saturday, February 22, 2025 – Cryptocurrency exchange Bybit has been removed from France’s Autorité des Marchés Financiers (AMF) blacklist after more than two years of regulatory hurdles, marking a key step in its efforts to gain full compliance under the European Union’s Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) framework.

Bybit was blacklisted in 2022 for operating without proper registration. In May 2024, the AMF reaffirmed the exchange’s unauthorized status, prompting Bybit to suspend withdrawal and custody services for French users in January 2025. Despite regulatory challenges in France, Malaysia, and India, the exchange has pushed for broader compliance in Europe.

The MiCA framework, set to take full effect in 2024-2025, introduces standardized regulations for crypto exchanges operating in the EU. Bybit’s removal from the AMF blacklist positions it for MiCA approval, which would grant it legal access to all 30 countries within the European Economic Area (EEA).

Other crypto firms are also moving toward compliance. Gemini registered as a Digital Asset Service Provider in France in late 2024, while Bitpanda, OKX, and Crypto.com have already secured MiCA licenses.

Bybit’s regulatory progress signals growing institutional adoption of crypto in Europe, as firms seek legal clarity under the new framework to expand operations across the region.
