Catenaa, Monday, August 11, 2025- China has authorized 183 Brazilian coffee exporters to access its market duty-free, allowing them to bypass U.S. tariffs imposed during the Trump administration that have hit Brazil’s coffee industry hard.1
The 50% U.S. tariff on Brazilian coffee threatens to raise prices for American consumers, as Brazil supplies about one-third of the U.S. coffee market. China’s move, valid until 2030, lets Brazilian firms recover costs by selling coffee in the rapidly growing Chinese market without import duties.
This agreement marks a significant trade collaboration between BRICS members China and Brazil, strengthening economic ties while providing a workaround for tariffs that have pressured Brazilian exporters. In addition to coffee, China approved 30 Brazilian sesame exporters to sell duty-free for the next four years, further expanding market access.
Brazil’s coffee sector ranges from small to large roasters, and this deal offers relief amid rising trade tensions with the U.S. Chinese consumers are increasingly embracing Brazilian coffee, presenting a new growth opportunity as nations seek to protect local economies amid global uncertainties.
The agreement reflects broader BRICS efforts to deepen trade cooperation and reduce reliance on Western markets amid ongoing geopolitical tensions.
