BitcoinOS Launches Grail Bridge Testnet for BTC Transfers

In Summary

  • BitcoinOS unveils Grail Bridge testnet for BTC-EVM transfers.
  • Uses ZK tech for secure, trustless cross-chain transactions.
  • Supports Ethereum Holešky, Base Sepolia, and more.
  • Two-way bridging and mainnet launch expected in 2025.

Catenaa, Wednesday, February 26, 2025 – BitcoinOS (BOS) unveiled its Grail Bridge testnet app on February 17, 2025, marking a significant milestone in Bitcoin’s ability to interact across blockchain networks. Using groundbreaking Zero-Knowledge (ZK) technology, the Grail app enables secure, trustless Bitcoin (BTC) transfers between Bitcoin’s testnet and Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM)-compatible chains.

The first-stage testnet release supports one-way bridging from Bitcoin’s testnet to multiple EVM chains, including Ethereum Holešky, Base Sepolia, Mode Sepolia, and Merlin Chain Testnet. This advancement provides a tool for both users and developers, boosting engagement within the ecosystem.

Notably, the BitcoinOS Grail Bridge app leverages the BitSNARK system, a ZK verification method that eliminates the need for custodians or multi-signature solutions, offering a more secure alternative to traditional cross-chain mechanisms. The Grail app’s initial success includes the first Bitcoin Zero-Knowledge Bridge transaction on the Merlin Chain in November 2024, demonstrating the platform’s technical prowess.

Users can access the app through wallets like OKX, Xverse, UniSat, and Bitget, with more integrations planned. With approximately 90% of decentralized finance (DeFi) activity occurring on EVM-compatible chains, this move allows BOS to tap into a large user base, capitalizing on EVM’s established reputation for ZK applications.

The ultimate goal is to enable two-way bridging by the end of Q1 2025, with mainnet support expected in Q2 2025. This launch promises to reshape Bitcoin’s role in multi-chain ecosystems and offers new possibilities for decentralized finance.
