On the opening day it showcased the company’s increasing willingness to allow user customization in its operating systems.

The keynote address unveiled a new era of artificial intelligence for its devices and a range of software updates for iPhones, iPads, Macs, Apple Watches, and its mixed reality headset.

Apple Intelligence

The centerpiece of the event was Apple Intelligence, a new AI platform that will be integrated into various Apple products later this year. Apple Intelligence will offer features such as writing suggestions, image editing tools, and organization assistance. However, it will be limited to devices powered by Apple’s M1 chip or later and the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max.

iOS 18

iOS 18 will introduce greater customization options for users, including more control over their home screen and Control Center, and the ability to lock apps with Face ID. iPadOS 18 will include many of the features coming to iOS 18, such as the redesigned Photos app. A new floating toolbar will be available across multiple built-in apps, and the iPad will finally get its own dedicated Calculator app.

macOS Sequoia (macOS 15)

Continuity features will be enhanced, allowing users to access their iPhone directly from their Mac, even if the iPhone is not nearby. Safari will gain new features such as page summaries and a viewer mode that puts videos front and center.

WatchOS 11

WatchOS 11 will offer several new fitness-focused features, including Training Load, which measures workout intensity, and the ability to pause ring progress for rest days and injuries. A new Vitals app will track various health metrics and warn users of any abnormalities. WatchOS 11 will not be compatible with the Apple Watch 4 or Apple Watch 5.

VisionOS 2

Apple’s spatial computing headset software will allow users to convert 2D photos into spatial photos and support new gestures. The headset will be available for purchase in additional countries outside the U.S.

TvOS 18

TvOS 18 introduces a new feature called InSight, which provides information about actors appearing in shows. Subtitles will automatically activate when a show is muted or rewound.

Developer betas for the new software updates are available now, with public betas coming in July. The full versions will be released later this year.
