The new Material 3 Expressive update introduces smoother animations, better customization options, and more intuitive interactions across devices, marking a substantial shift in how users can personalize their Android smartphones and Wear OS-powered smartwatches.
Material 3 Expressive builds on the previous Material You design, offering even more ways to customize the look and feel of devices.
The update introduces dynamic color themes that extend across both Google apps and Wear OS, allowing users to maintain a consistent visual experience.
New, natural animations make interactions more fluid, such as haptic feedback when dismissing notifications or adjusting volume, creating a more engaging and delightful user experience.
Wear OS 6, the update for smartwatches, also brings improved battery life, with a 10% increase, alongside a redesigned interface that centers around the round display of the watch.
This redesign includes more engaging tiles, space-efficient buttons, and smoother transitions, making daily tasks more accessible and enjoyable.
Android 16 will also feature the update’s new Live Updates feature, allowing users to track real-time progress of deliveries or other app activities with glanceable notifications.
These updates, designed to make devices more personalized, functional, and fluid, will first be available on Google’s Pixel devices later this year.
