Catenaa, Saturday, September 13, 2025- Air China may allow its PhoenixMiles loyalty program members to pay with XRP and Ripple’s RLUSD stablecoin through Wetour, a travel service managed by Webus International.
The plan could reach more than 60 million users, although implementation depends on future business decisions and regulatory approval.
Wetour’s platform currently focuses on premium chauffeur and airport transfer services, with XRP displayed as a payment option.
The service also supports other altcoins, following Webus’ SEC filing in June for a $300 million treasury reserve and its stated plan to use the XRP Ledger for cross-border payments.
XRP transactions typically settle in three to five seconds with fees under one cent, making it attractive for vouchers, token rewards, and fast payments in loyalty programs.
Legal and regulatory considerations remain crucial. Experts note that while integration of XRP shows real adoption progress, access does not guarantee widespread usage. Pilot programs generally begin with a small subset of users and expand as adoption grows.
Early use is likely limited to frequent travelers or premium service customers, and a full rollout will require compliance with cross-border payment rules.
Industry analysts say the move highlights XRP’s growing presence in travel and loyalty ecosystems, though large-scale adoption will depend on regulatory approvals and user engagement.
Webus’ treasury and XRPL initiatives lend credibility to the project, signaling that cryptocurrency payments may gradually become part of mainstream travel services.
