Catenaa, Monday, February 03, 2025 – Canada, Mexico and China have announced retaliatory measures after President Donald Trump signed executive orders imposing steep tariffs on imported goods.

The White House confirmed Saturday that the US would implement a 25% tariff on goods from Canada and Mexico and a 10% tariff on items from China.

In response, Canadia said it would impose 25% tariffs on CA$155 billion ($106 billion) worth of US goods, effective Tuesday.

Mexican said its government was considering both tariff and non-tariff measures, though specifics were not immediately provided.

China’s Ministry of Commerce said Beijing would file a lawsuit with the World Trade Organization and consider additional countermeasures.

However, China has not yet announced new tariffs against the US.

The escalating trade tensions could have broad economic consequences, analysts say.

Canada, Mexico and China together account for 41.7% of all US imports, according to Census Bureau data.  Economists also warn the standoff could disrupt global trade, drive up consumer prices and strain economic ties.
