$8.4 Million Of Craig Wright's Assets Frozen By UK Court featured

LONDON, UK, Monday, April 8, 2024 – A United Kingdom court has frozen $8.4 million (6.7 million British pounds) of assets belonging to Craig Wright, a self-proclaimed inventor of Bitcoin.

The order, issued on March 14, stems from a legal battle between Wright and the Crypto Open Patent Alliance (COPA). 1

COPA sued Wright in 2019, alleging he owes the organization millions in unpaid legal fees. The court documents do not disclose the nature of the legal services rendered by COPA.

According to the court order, Wright transferred some of his assets to a Singaporean entity shortly before the freeze was imposed. This action prompted Judge James Mellor to issue a “worldwide freezing order” to prevent Wright from disposing of his assets and potentially evading payment.

Wright has long been a controversial figure in the cryptocurrency community. He has repeatedly claimed to be Satoshi Nakamoto, the anonymous creator of Bitcoin, but these claims have never been conclusively proven.

COPA and Wright’s legal representatives could not be immediately reached for comment.
