India Augments AI Regulations in Advance of Public Introduction featured

New Delhi, Wednesday, March 13, 2024– The IT ministry in India stated in an advisory on March 1, 2024, that approval is mandatory for the artificial intelligence (AI) tools that are under trial before they are released to the public. The tools should be equipped with accurate answers to the questions asked by users, as mentioned in the advisory. 1

A direct permission of the Government of India must be obtained when facilitating the AI tools for the users on the Indian internet, the IT ministry of India denoted.

The Gemini AI tool had been criticized by a top minister responding to the accusation made against Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The statement was considered as a fascist comment that was against AI policies, which finally resulted in the advisory imposing tightening AI regulations.

In response, Google has stated that the tool might not be reliable, especially for current scenarios, including political topics. “Safety and trust is platforms legal obligation. ‘Sorry Unreliable’ does not exempt from law,” Deputy IT Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar stated on X. 2

Google’s Gemini, which was earlier known as Bard, used to have the tag “Experimental”. Now, called Gemini, it also carries a disclaimer which says, “Gemini may display inaccurate info, including about people, so double-check its responses. “

As the global community is concerned with formulating the rules to regulate AI, regulations for social media companies have been tightening in India.
