  • The case sparks debate over tech platform responsibility and digital freedoms

Catenaa, Sunday, March 16, 2025-Telegram founder and CEO Pavel Durov has been granted temporary leave from France as authorities continue investigating alleged criminal activities on his platform, sources said.

Durov, 39, left France on Saturday with official authorization, a key development in the case that has drawn global scrutiny. The Russian-born entrepreneur, who also holds UAE and French citizenship, was arrested in August 2024 at Paris–Le Bourget Airport and placed under judicial supervision.

Authorities charged Durov after allegations that Telegram’s insufficient moderation enabled illegal activities, including child sexual exploitation material and drug trafficking. He was released on bail under strict conditions, including a travel ban and mandatory police check-ins.

An investigating judge has now allowed Durov to travel abroad for several weeks, with sources confirming Dubai as his destination. While he attends to personal and business matters, the probe into Telegram remains ongoing.
