Catenaa, Tuesday, January 28, 2025 – Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) Acting Chairman Caroline D. Pham announced Monday the launch of a series of public roundtables to address evolving trends and innovation in market structure. The roundtables will focus on key issues such as affiliated entities, conflicts of interest, prediction markets, and digital assets.
The initiative follows Pham’s renewed call for greater public engagement and transparency in the CFTC’s approach to policy changes in derivatives markets.
“The CFTC must take a forward-looking approach to shifts in market structure to ensure our markets remain vibrant and resilient while protecting all participants,” Pham said in a statement.
“Innovation and new technology have created a renaissance in markets, presenting new opportunities accessible to more people, as well as risks. These roundtables will help establish clear rules and safeguards to promote US economic growth and competitiveness.”
Over the coming months, the CFTC will host open forums with industry leaders, market participants, experts, and public interest groups to gather the latest data and insights. The agency plans to develop a comprehensive administrative record, incorporating studies, expert reports, and public input to inform its policies.
Details about the roundtable series, including dates and participation guidelines, will be released as they become available.
The CFTC, which regulates derivatives markets, has increasingly focused on adapting to technological advancements and emerging risks in recent years.
