Catenaa, Wednesday, January 08, 2025 – Meta has officially discontinued its high-end Quest Pro virtual reality headset, redirecting consumers toward the more affordable and powerful Meta Quest 3.
The Quest Pro, launched in October 2022 at $1,499 and later discounted to $999, struggled to gain traction in the competitive VR market.
Visitors to the Quest Pro’s product page are now greeted with a message stating, “Meta Quest Pro is no longer available,” highlighting a shift in Meta’s VR strategy.
The Quest Pro’s discontinuation underscores the challenges of selling high-end VR devices, a reality also faced by Apple’s Vision Pro, released in early 2024.
While the Quest Pro boasted advanced features like miniLED display technology for enhanced contrast and eye-tracking capabilities, these have yet to find a place in mainstream VR due to cost and limited consumer adoption. Meta’s pivot to the Quest 3, launched in October 2023 at a significantly lower price, appears to be yielding better results. CEO Mark Zuckerberg reported that the Quest 3 has exceeded sales expectations.
Although plans for a second-generation Quest Pro were shelved, Meta’s focus on affordability and mass appeal mirrors the success of earlier models like the Quest 2.
Experts believe this approach aligns better with consumer demand, though the absence of high-end features leaves a gap in the VR market.
