Catenaa, Thursday, December 12, 2024- ChatGPT, OpenAI’s widely used AI chatbot, experienced a global outage late Wednesday, disrupting access for millions of users, including those relying on its API and Sora services.

The outage began around 7 p.m. ET (5:30 a.m. IST) and was resolved by 8 a.m. IST, according to OpenAI. Users attempting to log in were met with the message, “ChatGPT is currently unavailable.”

OpenAI acknowledged the issue on social media platform X, assuring users that a fix was being rolled out.

The outage follows similar disruptions faced by Meta platforms like WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook earlier in the day, highlighting the increasing dependence on AI and social media tools globally.

While the outage lasted, users turned to alternative AI tools such as Google’s Gemini, Claude AI, Microsoft Copilot, Jasper AI, Rytr, and Perplexity AI to fulfill their needs.

This follows Meta, (Facebook, WhatsApp, and Instagram) experiencing a global outage on Wednesday impacting millions of users.

The outage began around 18:00 GMT and affected users’ ability to access the apps or caused feeds not to refresh.

While Facebook itself hasn’t confirmed the complete resolution, WhatsApp and Instagram announced their services are back online.

Meta acknowledged the technical issue and apologized for the inconvenience. This incident follows Meta’s largest outage in 2021, which lasted nearly six hours.
