Catenaa, Sunday, November 24, 2024-A Moscow-based cybersecurity company, FACCT (Fight Against Cybercrime Technologies), has raised alarms about a new deepfake bot being used by scammers to promote fraudulent cryptocurrency schemes.

According to FACCT, the bot, which operates on popular chat apps, enables users to create deepfake videos featuring high-profile figures, including US President-elect Donald Trump, entrepreneur Elon Musk, and journalist Tucker Carlson.

These deepfake videos, which can include up to 400 characters of text, are being used to advertise fake crypto exchanges.

The bot has already begun to appear on social media platforms like TikTok and YouTube, where scammers are leveraging the deepfake technology to lure victims into investing in bogus crypto platforms, FACCT says.

FACCT warns that scammers are focusing on three primary types of crypto fraud: fake exchanges, which trick victims into transferring tokens before disappearing; crypto predators, which use malicious links to steal access to wallets; and scam tokens, which allow users to purchase coins that cannot be sold.

In addition to crypto-related scams, FACCT notes that similar tactics are being employed in crypto-themed gambling scams targeting Chinese speakers on platforms like Telegram. The Russian Central Bank has issued several warnings this year about the rise in crypto scams, including those related to the upcoming launch of Russia’s digital ruble.
